TKS Laboratory Services is equipped with comprehensive equipment for the preparation and analysis of the microstructure of steel alloys and other metals. Proper equipment and careful attention to specimen preparation is needed to ensure correct observation and interpretation.
The primary objective of metallographic examinations is to reveal the constituents and structure (i.e. microstructure, average grain size and nonmetallic inclusion content) of metals and their alloys by means of a light microscope or SEM.
TKS Laboratory utilizes various test methods and optical techniques to determine microstructure including: using polarized light, phase contrast, interference-contrast, oblique, dark-field and bright-field illumination.
